Former Red Wings players bring in $17,000 for Blessings in a Backpack

Once again the largest single fundraiser for Blessings in a Backpack-Wyandotte raked in much-needed cash for the program that donates food on a weekly basis to children who qualify for the Federal Free Lunch program at Jefferson, Garfield and Monroe elementary schools.

The game, played Jan. 16 at the Yack Recreation Center, featured Detroit Red Wings Alumni players who went up against a team of mostly former Wyandotte students.

“We sold 760 tickets to this event,” said Dana Browning, chairwoman of Blessings in a Backpack Wyandotte. “Pack the Yack was very successful this year. We did not meet our $20,000 goal, but our profit was more this year than the last two at $17,215.48.”
